The 29-30 Soho Square project was to determine the feasibility of a current NHS estates site for redevelopment. The project comprised the potential re development of an existing Listed building on Soho Square which was the first women’s hospital in Europe. The current building is an amalgamation of three different buildings of differing ages and is largely empty apart from a medical use on Frith Street.
CRE8 Structures were the civil and structural engineers for the feasibility study project. They undertook studies on ground conditions and structural engineering options including undertaking an assessment of the existing building. This necessitated the review of all historic material and an extensive visual inspection of the historic structure to ascertain it's constraints to development.
The project team, led by BDP, developed several options to redevelop the building, extending upwards and changing uses with appraisals for each. The client has moved to consult internally to consider whether to go forward to a planning application. A decision is awaited.
