The tower also provides an amenity floor at the ground level which will be available to the public as well as the residents. CRE8 Structures are the appointed structural and civil engineers for the project.
The tower is located on a heavily constrained site. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) runs on a viaduct for the entire length of the southern boundary and the Blackwall tunnel runs below the western edge. The engineering solution exploited the opportunity for cantilevering into the DLR clearance zone with triangular protrusions once the vertical storey height was sufficient to clear the operational envelope of the viaduct. CRE8 structures were responsible for negotiating the position with DLR asset protection and obtaining confirmation of no objection. Future, more detailed justification will be required by DLR when detailed design is progressed.
The foundation system is to be bored and cast in place piles. Given the proximity of the blackwall tunnel, monitoring will be required during and after piling operations. The frame is envisaged to be a reinforced concrete structure. As deliveries to site are heavily constrained by limited road access, modular and large piece deliveries were seen to be difficult. Further logistics planning will be required at the next stage.
